out

Hello, my name is Kathie. I live in the beautiful Dandenong Ranges in Victoria, Australia. We're surrounded by rain forests, bush-land and native bird-life and wildlife. Certainly a wonderful place to live and enjoy, especially through the lens of my camera.

I've been using a camera since I was 14 years old, but it wasn't until a photo of a blue banded bee I took, when first living in the Dandenong Ranges in 2009, that I was led on a path of discovery. I began researching to find out what kind of bee it was. I’ve learnt lots of things since that day and can now name almost every bird in this region and identify it by its call too. I’ve learnt so much more about the environment in which I live. I explore it constantly and have walked and driven to many places simply for the pleasure of photographing it and get excited when I discover a ‘new’ bird or something I’d not seen before.

I love being out amongst nature. It gives me the peace and quiet that we all seek and long for. When I'm out there with my camera it's just me and nature and I enjoy the sounds, the sights and the smells out there. For awhile I'm away from the hustle and bustle of life and have no constraints on me.

My biggest passion though, is gardening. I love to garden and I love photographing gardens. Close ups of flowers or wide shots of a garden space, the trees, bushes, plants, even vegetable gardens. I find that as our garden grows and develops here, where we live on 2 acres, my interest in learning more about gardening also grows. Perhaps one day I might do a serious botanic or horticultural course. I have completed a Discovery Course in Horticulture at Burnley Campus, in Melbourne, which has only served to whet my appetite more. However, for the meantime, I'll concentrate on photographing through the seasons and in gardens anywhere I can.

I am available for bookings and would be honoured to come photograph your garden, be it whole, or in part, or something that is in you garden.  You can find details about booking me on my Contact Page.

I hope you enjoy what I share here and are able to experience through my photos, the very things I see, feel and hear when out there. I welcome your questions, requests and comments.
